I found my gauge loosened as I knit this a bit too. But it looks great, and such a wonderful color!
That's a pretty shade of blue.
Were you doing gauge swatches in the round? Those are different than back and forth swatches for some people.
I did the swatches flat on the circulars- and I knew it could be a problem, too. But then, I haven't joined yet and the gauge is already weird. So who knows what will happen in another 15 rows when I have to join and knit in the round, huh?
If you want a tighter fabric, you need to use smaller needles, not larger... try swatching again using a 6.
Oh, well, I actually meant I went down from 9's, but 7 seemed too off-gauge (but tighter), so I went with 8's- you know, happy medium or something. I'm back to working with 7's and it seems plenty tight.
