Cables and Os

I have finished knitting the body and the sleeves. The sleeves need to be attached but since I won't have the time over the next few days and I don't want to loose time, I will be knitting the neckband. Once I have and evening alone at home those sleeves are going on. I can't wait! Soon I will be wearing this sweater, not just hauling it around with me. giggle.

I have to browse though that book to see what's up next.

Finished Tuscany

Hi All! I just wanted to post this finished Tuscany that I have been working on for what seems like forever (I'm always amazed how long a project takes when I have other projects on the needle, I may never learn). I've been working on this since last year, since it's pretty much the same thing over and over I worked on other projects at the same time. This Tuscany is a thank you present for my mom, she is taking me on 2 week Mediterranean cruise. I thought that the pattern was so pretty and I made it with 2 skeins of Handmaiden Seasilk in color Capri because of the sea cell/cruise link and the color Capri and where we are going on vacation.

Finally started!

I finally started my CPH! After skulking around the KAL forever, I've finally gotten around to casting on. It's Cascade 200 Heathers #9406 celery (I think). So far, so good! I couldn't hit gauge, so I've divided my gauge into the stitch count and seem to be doing well (knitted on sz 7 needles)

Mutating Tomato

I'm making progress with my Tomato (after a LONG hiatus) and I've decided that I'd like to make the sleeves closer to elbow length, but I'm not entirely positive about how to do that. Can I just knit 1.5 inches in SS before I add the ribbing, or will that make the sleeves wonky?

Big lot of sheepless yarn up for grabs

Just in case anyone is interested, I have a lot of 19 balls of cotton/bamboo boucle Lily Chin Manhattan yarn for sale on ebay here. They're all the same color/dyelot.

Tuscany and Cables and Os

I made my Tuscany with a cotton yarn in purple. I added beads along the edges.


I also added a few rows of garter stitch at the long edge.


I enjoyed knitting this shawl and will probably make another, more delicate version.

I am currently working on Cables and O's using Cotton Glace. Here's my progress so far:



It seems to be a good balance between easily memorized and therefore an easy knit and not being too monotonous and boring. I am looking forward to wearing it. Someday.

a vegan in Tuscany

Well, my second Tuscany is off the needles - this time a vegan version made with Rosarios Bio Bamboo!



It's for a vegan coworker of mine - hence the yarn choice.



Can't say I loved the bamboo as much as the Silken, but it was still fun to work with. A great pattern as well.

Tuscany

Hello All!

I'm on my second project from the book the Tuscany Shawl (the first was the Cables an O's Sweater, which I still really love). I have never really knitted lace before and I wanted to try and I knew from what people were posting on Ravelry it seemed like a good first lace project. I have to say that after this first two or three repeats I got the hang of it. I really do appreciate the fact that every other row is a purl row. This is good because when I have had to rip back there was a solid row to rip back to, unlike some patterns that have you rip back to complicated yarn overs and such.

So here is a picture I took a couple of days ago, with about 5 1/2 repeats (I'm up to 7 1/2 repeats as of right now).

It pretty much looks the same just a bit longer, it's amazing how much knitting you can do in 5 hours before the Uber-Bowl. I'm using Handmaiden Sea Silk (not the Silken that was called for in the pattern) it's not as heavy as the original yarn but it's very nice. I'm using Addi Turbo's Lace needles in size 5 (32 inches long). It's going to be a gift for my mom, here is an up-close picture.


It's been so nice to see what everyone is working on, and to have the opportunity to add to the site.

No Sheep KAL - First FO - Tomato

Tomato FO - sort of...

Here is my finished Tomato. Overall I'm very happy with it, except that I am planning to redo the neckline, making it in corrugated ribbing. I knit the 35 1/2" taking into account the cotton and negative ease. I moved the herringbone pattern below my bust taking the cue from Sandi Wiseheart from Knitting Daily. I also use the CC on the very bottom of Tomato, for the ribbing on the arms, and then use the MC after the CC on the arms. A modeled version of my final Tomato to come soon....

Manly Maze

Hello! I'm new to the KAL and am looking for anyone who has knit the Manly Maze in the called for yarn (Lanaknits Allhemp6). I ran across one other post on the internet from someone who said they did not like knitting with the hemp yarn (hurt their hands, difficulty getting gague, poor knitting fabric quality). Any advice or insight anyone might have about knitting with this yarn would be greatly appreciated.

Eileen in the round

I decided to knit Eileen in the round, rather than on straight needles. I knitted in the round until the armpits, then switched to straight needles for the front and back. It helped to break up the monotony of knitting only lace or only stockinette, as I had to knit both for each round. My plan was perfect, until I realized that I had been knitting the lace pattern in one direction only - so I had to learn to do it backward when I switched to the straight needles! A few attempts got ripped out before I finally got it right.

I used Rosarios 4 Bio Bamboo (100% bamboo) and I must say, I am extremely pleased with the result. It is so soft, and a bit drapey, though I think it turned out lovely! I used 4 mm needles to get anything near the gauge recommended for the pattern.

Bio Bamboo is wonderful stuff, but I think they were out to lunch when they printed the label. The yarn label's gauge is 27 sts and 32 rows = 4 inches with 5 mm needles, but I couldn't even get that gauge with2.75 mm needles (I got 25 sts and 30 rows). And I always knit to gauge. So I wouldn't trust the label, and recommend ALWAYS knitting a gauge swatch with this one.

Network

I finished Network, but I didn't get the same result as the photo in the book. Instead of the yarnovers alternating every 8 rows, they alternated every 16 rows. Still looks cool, and didn't warrant trashing the project, but I wonder why it happened?? I had some confusion when it came to the rows which required moving the marker, so perhaps I did an extra pattern repeat before ending the round and offset the lace pattern by just enough to cause the problem?

I knitted it in a lovely soft pink Rowan Classic Cashcotton 4 ply yarn, which was a bit finer than the recommended yarns, but worked OK.

I finished Tuscany! I started this project in June with some stash yarn, Bernat Satin in Bordeaux (a worsted weight yarn) and used size 6 needles. Because it's worsted, I ended up doing 8 repeats instead of 11.







It's still drying, though inside now. It was unseasonably warm today (23C, 75F), great for laying it out on the porch.

Finally finished Cables and Os

After sitting down in the same chair and knitting for about 12 hours almost non-stop. (Moi, not eat, mais non!)

It actually looks better up close and personal. It fits and I'm glad. The O's part kind of give a little "air conditioning" - perfect for a lightweight sweater. I used cotton and linen and besides the striping, also made a change by crocheting a band around the neck and the button/buttonhole bands.

Now, on to the next:)
